Closter Nature Center is searching for a limited number of competent volunteers who are eager to participate in labor-intensive work, who find satisfaction in connecting with nature, and who enjoy the camaraderie of working with a close-knit group. The Trail Crew is a small group of skillful individuals who respond to ongoing issues around the Nature Center grounds and forest, such as trail repair, clearing streams, removing fallen trees, maintaining bridges and boardwalks, and performing forest restoration work.

This is not a position with a fixed schedule. Crew members meet at mutually available times for projects, typically working at least once a week, weather permitting. There is no need to commit to a fixed number of hours each week. However, participation does require being available during weekday hours. This position is potentially ideal for retired or unemployed individuals, or those with an atypical work schedule.

Candidates for this position should be physically fit and comfortable doing strenuous labor for 2-3 hours at a time. Prior experience in trail maintenance is not required, but familiarity with construction, landscaping, power tool usage, or maintaining small power equipment would be an asset to the crew.
