THINGS TO DO

HIKING
Closter Nature Center features over 3 miles of hiking trails for visitors of all ages. Our trails have no elevation gain and are carefully maintained by dedicated volunteers. Part of our trail system is in a forested wetland and can include planks, wooden bridges and tree roots! We recommend wearing shoes that can handle wet or muddy conditions and using insect repellent.
Trails are for pedestrian use only—no mountain bikes or motorized vehicles are allowed.
While we continually strive to improve accessibility, our trails are currently not recommended for wheelchairs, motorized scooters, or strollers.

FISHING
Catch and Release Fishing is allowed on Ruckman Pond only. Fishing in other areas is prohibited.
Any individual over the age of 16 must display a New Jersey Freshwater Fishing License, which can be purchased through the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
Note: CNC does not sell or provide any fishing supplies or materials. We ask that fishermen do not dig or forage for bait on CNC grounds. Bait and worms can be bought at sporting good stores or pet stores.

BIRDING

You can report or follow any birds spotted at the Nature Center on our eBird page. If you’re new to birding, download the Merlin Bird ID app to identify bird from audio clips or photos.
